Work Packages

CERTAIN is organised into nine Work Packages (WPs) that together form the backbone of the project’s mission — creating a trusted, adaptive and continuously validated Safety Assurance Framework for Europe’s automated mobility future. Each WP contributes a vital element, from understanding regulatory needs to validating the framework and ensuring long-term impact.

WP1 | Requirements

Defines stakeholder and regulatory needs to ensure all project outcomes are relevant, usable and aligned with European safety frameworks.

WP2 | Human–Machine Interaction (HMI) Validation

Develops and validates a human-centred assessment component to ensure safe, trustworthy and comfortable interaction between people and automated systems.

WP3 | AI-Based CCAM Systems Validation

Designs validation methods for AI-driven CCAM functions, ensuring safety, transparency and trust in data-driven decision-making.

WP4 | Continuous Safety Assessment

Delivers a system for continuous safety validation after deployment, monitoring updates and external changes to maintain performance and reliability.

WP5 | Integrated Approach and Tools for Validation

Combines all safety assurance components — HMI, AI, lifecycle monitoring and V2X — into one hybrid validation framework.

WP6 | Validation Through Use Cases

Tests the full Safety Assurance Framework across diverse vehicle types, automation levels and environments, from simulations to real-world trials.

WP7 | Communication and Scientific Dissemination

Maximises visibility and impact through strategic engagement with policymakers, industry, researchers and the public.

WP8 | Standardisation and Exploitation

Channels results into European and international standards, ensuring regulatory alignment and sustainable uptake.

WP9 | Coordination and Technical Management

Guarantees timely delivery, quality control and efficient collaboration across the consortium.
