The CERTAIN project has officially launched under the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme. Coordinated by Applus IDIADA, CERTAIN brings together 25 partners from research, industry and standardisation bodies to advance the safety and trustworthiness of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) in Europe.
The project focuses on improving road safety by integrating advanced driver assistance tools, user-centred design and AI systems into future vehicles. CERTAIN addresses key challenges such as continuous safety assessment throughout the entire vehicle lifecycle, rigorous evaluation of AI components, and the balance between strong regulation, innovation and sustainability. Its goal is to establish a unified, human-centric Safety Assurance Framework that enhances safety, trust, acceptance and comfort — while supporting innovation and the wider adoption of CCAM technologies. This vision aligns directly with the European Union’s ambition for sustainable, safe and competitive mobility.
The kick-off meeting, held on 17 June 2025 at Applus IDIADA’s facilities in Santa Oliva, brought together all project partners for presentations, workshops and discussions to align objectives and set the course for the three-year collaboration ahead.
Ahead of this meeting, Dr. Oana Moldovan, Project Coordinator at Applus IDIADA, recorded a short video introducing the CERTAIN project and highlighting its first liaison activity at the V4SAFETY project Final Event.
CERTAIN now moves forward with a shared ambition: to develop a resilient, human-centric and continuous safety assurance framework that supports the safe and trusted deployment of automated mobility across Europe.
